Discover Hunter Douglas Green

For over 60 years, Hunter Douglas has been creating and offering natural and appealing ways to harness heat and light. In the winter, heat leaves through the window when you need it, yet becomes trapped inside in the summer when you don't. Heat loss and gain drive our energy usage up. It can be felt in our monthly utility bills and calculated in our collective carbon emissions.

Today, Hunter Douglas is committed to lowering our energy usage and implementing other changes that will ultimately reduce our carbon footprint by 20%. Our overriding goal, though, is to help our customers everywhere save energy the natural way by effectively channeling and exploiting the natural power of the sun.

Upgrading the front of your house will help your home make the best first impression.

Most people think of curb appeal as something to focus on only when you’re getting ready to sell your home. That’s not true. Curb appeal is important all the time – to get your family and friends in the best possible mood when they visit you at home.

It’s not as simple as you think. Just like the first impressions we make as people, there are lots of aspects to a good first impression for a house. It’s all about giving the front of your house a personality.

The color of your front door can make a statement. Think beautifully rich painted doors in Indian red or emerald green – or even black or soft dove gray. If your door is wood grain, think carefully about what stain looks best with the paint, brick or stone colors around it, and also focus on durability.

The windows in your door or surrounding your door can also make a difference. Consider stained glass, etched glass, clear glass or frosted glass. Then make it a priority to keep the windows clean!

Then there’s the question of landscaping. Some entrances have lots of surrounding garden area that can frame a door beautifully. In other cases, a selection of potted plants can add drama. Use your landscaping to accent the good features of your house and hide or disguise any negative features.

Other areas to consider include:

The hardware on your front door

The paint trim around your front door and windows

The surface and shape of the front walk or steps

The driveway and garage door

Fences, gates or hedges to provide privacy and exclusivity

Think about the impression your house makes from the street and as visitors walk to your front door; then make plans to enhance your curb appeal!
