Discover Hunter Douglas Green

For over 60 years, Hunter Douglas has been creating and offering natural and appealing ways to harness heat and light. In the winter, heat leaves through the window when you need it, yet becomes trapped inside in the summer when you don't. Heat loss and gain drive our energy usage up. It can be felt in our monthly utility bills and calculated in our collective carbon emissions.

Today, Hunter Douglas is committed to lowering our energy usage and implementing other changes that will ultimately reduce our carbon footprint by 20%. Our overriding goal, though, is to help our customers everywhere save energy the natural way by effectively channeling and exploiting the natural power of the sun.

Just Right Blinds & Shutters introduces 12 hot home design trends for 2017: from Homes & Gardens of the Northwest staff

The New Year comes with predictions. What decor will be popular?
Home improvement resource Houzz surveyed professionals in architecture, interior design and decorating to come up with its list of 12 hot home design trends for 2017.
Houzz also consider viewers' behavior, and popular photos and articles to determine that black steel-and-glass doors are being used in showers and old-standbys beige and hanging chairs have been given a fresh twist.

1. Playful bedside pendant lights. Forget boring old table lamps. Hanging pendant lights free up bedside space for nightstand essentials, especially helpful in small rooms.

2. Black steel and glass doors. These work for dark entryways that could use some natural light and make a statement for shower doors when frameless glass is a little too boring in a space.

3. Splurge on laundry rooms. Smarter storage, better function and more light make doing laundry more efficient.

4. Rethinking beige. Designers find beige-based neutrals useful backdrops.

5. Romantic bedroom colors. Most homeowners strive for a calm and cozy bedroom by sticking with walls painted in soothing blues, grays or yellows. But according to a recent Houzz survey, intimate or romantic is the third-most desired atmosphere for a master bedroom after calm and cozy. To achieve this mood, colors like raspberry pink, deep ruby red, caramel and even black will be hot in 2017.

6. White and wood kitchens. When it comes to cabinets and backsplashes, the color white dominates in kitchens, according to a recent Houzz kitchen study. To keep the all-white look from becoming too sterile, designers and homeowners are introducing wood accents to help break up the look visually and provide much needed warmth.

7. Warm wood cabinets. Taking that concept a step further, designers are seeing a lot more warm wood cabinets in modern styles. These aren't the honey-colored off-the-shelf cabinets from the 1990s, but clean lined, beautifully stained versions that celebrate various wood species.

8. Wall of tile in kitchen. And speaking of tile, designers are seeing a lot of homeowners avoiding the typical above the countertop, below the cabinets backsplash format and going a bit more dramatic with full floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall tile coverage.

9. Vanity conversions. Instead of a pre-manufactured vanity, some homeowners are finding chests of drawers, old file cabinets, vintage consoles and more and converting them into one-of-a-kind vanities.

10. Barstools are the new jewelry of the kitchen. Modern and contemporary counter seating are popular.

11. Graphic floor tile in the kitchen. Sometimes wall space is nonexistent in a kitchen, which diminishes the opportunity for a standout backsplash. To keep the airy feeling of your kitchen but still deliver visual impact, look to graphic floor tile.

12. Hanging chairs. While these have been around for a while, they're popping up more lately, and not just in living rooms. They're a great way to add an extra seat with a fun statement to a room. Not keen on anchoring a hanging chair in your ceiling? Look for a stand model.

Square and rectangular shapes can sharpen your decorating plan.

Consider beautiful design elements with squared-off edges.

Often we think about soft, rounded shapes as the only design aesthetic, especially for home décor. However, an interior design look based on sharp edges, with square, rectangular and trapezoidal shapes, can be equally beautiful and comfortable. Square edges give a sense of symmetry, order and stability, calming an interior look into a sense of harmony.

Squares and rectangles can be just the right angle for your interior plan. Think sharp edges, with no curves, no fuss and no frills. Imagine clean, simple and sophisticated lines. Home furnishing elements can be very beautiful when they have no rounded edges at all, helping create a very elegant look.

You might think squared-off design elements can only complement a minimalist style, but that’s not true. You can go ultra contemporary, mid-century modern or very traditional, such as Shaker, mission, colonial, or arts and craft styles. Leaving off the curved surfaces, swirled ornamentation and cut-out rounded patterns will simplify your décor and lend a sense of peace and serenity to your home.

Think right angles for:
·         Upholstered furniture including sofas, easy chairs and ottomans
·         Tables, including dining tables, coffee tables and end tables
·         Window fashions
·         Shelving
·         Plumbing fixtures and door hardware

Eliminate the fussiness in your furniture and square up your home decor with a focus on sharp-edged shapes. It's the perfect angle for a tranquil home environment!

A touch of holiday decorating will help get you and your guests into the spirit of the season!  Bet keep in simple so you can enjoy the season without stressing about perfection.
