Discover Hunter Douglas Green

For over 60 years, Hunter Douglas has been creating and offering natural and appealing ways to harness heat and light. In the winter, heat leaves through the window when you need it, yet becomes trapped inside in the summer when you don't. Heat loss and gain drive our energy usage up. It can be felt in our monthly utility bills and calculated in our collective carbon emissions.

Today, Hunter Douglas is committed to lowering our energy usage and implementing other changes that will ultimately reduce our carbon footprint by 20%. Our overriding goal, though, is to help our customers everywhere save energy the natural way by effectively channeling and exploiting the natural power of the sun.

A Focus on the Design of Your Breakfast Area Will Help You Start every Day with A Smile.

Fresh Ideas For Your Home

A Focus on the Design of Your Breakfast Area Will Help You Start every Day with A Smile.

It’s the room most of us use most frequently in our homes!

In our interior design plans, we often neglect the area were we eat breakfast, yet that’s a part of the house we use more often than most any other – and where we start our day!  It’s also a place for a light dinner, afternoon snack or late night cup of tea, often while reading the newspaper, catching up on family gossip or helping the kids with homework.

When planning your breakfast area for maximum function and enjoyment, consider these factors:
-          Make sure the size and shape of the table – or counter – is functional.  Fit is more an issue in breakfast areas than dining rooms since furniture is often close to kitchen cabinets and appliances, and you want to allow plenty of working space and walking space.
-          Use durable, easy- clean finishes for the tabletop or countertop, flooring and chairs.  And test the chairs or stools to make sure they are comfortable before you buy them.
-          Don’t scrimp on lighting. You want to be able to comfortably read the newspaper or a book.
-          Think about flexibility.  The area are should work well when there are just two people having breakfast, but also expand to seat more people when you have overnight guests or invite friends for a casual meal in the kitchen.
-          Consider a bar instead of a table. Bar seating takes less space, and stools can tuck under the counter.  A bar also provides a wonderful surface for serving a buffet dinner!
